Jade Farrugia
Hello! I’m Jade, and I have dedicated my career to protecting our planet's most vital ecosystem. My connection to the ocean began in my childhood, growing up along the coast. However, witnessing the growing pressures on our marine environments made me realise that passion alone wasn't enough. Our oceans required practical, evidence-based solutions.
This realisation motivated me to establish The Oceans Need Us. We are a global movement founded on a simple principle: change begins with accessible education. Our aim is to bridge the gap between complex marine science and public conservation, empowering communities to champion their coastlines.
My work now combines grassroots advocacy with advanced geospatial technology. As an academic researcher at the University of Queensland, I use multi-sensor satellite imagery and machine learning to monitor coral reef resilience. I apply that same technology directly to The Oceans Need Us, creating open-source tools like our live AI dashboard to track coastal health from space.
When I’m not analysing satellite data, you’ll probably find me beneath the surface. As an enthusiastic freediver and underwater photographer, experiencing the unmatched beauty of our marine ecosystems firsthand constantly reminds me of what we are fighting to protect.
The oceans rely on us, and we rely on them. Join us in our mission to keep these magnificent, life-sustaining worlds thriving for generations to come.

Saree Farrugia
Hello, I'm Saree Farrugia, co-founder of "The Oceans Need Us," and I'm deeply dedicated to safeguarding our planet's oceans. Currently, I'm on the cusp of embarking on a transformative academic journey, transitioning from my background in psychology to start a degree in marine science.
My journey into marine science might appear to be a shift from my initial field of study, but my unwavering passion for ocean conservation has been a guiding force in my life. Growing up in the picturesque state of California, I was immersed in the beauty of nature, which instilled in me a profound love for the environment. While I didn't grow up in a coastal town, the stunning landscapes and diverse ecosystems of California inspired my fascination with the ocean.
My academic path initially led me to psychology, where I delved into the complexities of human behaviour and the workings of the human mind. However, my heart has always been drawn to the mysteries of the ocean. With great determination, I'm now preparing to dive into a marine science degree, driven by the desire to make a meaningful contribution to the protection of our oceans.
"The Oceans Need Us" was co-founded by my partner, Jade Farrugia, and me, reflecting our shared vision to make a positive impact on the marine environment. Our organisation is dedicated to raising awareness about the critical issues facing our oceans and empowering individuals and communities to take action. Through education and advocacy, we aim to address challenges like plastic pollution, habitat degradation, and the preservation of marine species.
Beyond my academic and conservation pursuits, I have a deep love for nature and a free-spirited soul. When I'm not immersed in marine science or ocean conservation efforts, you can often find me expressing my creative side as an artist. My art is a reflection of my connection with the natural world, and it allows me to convey the beauty and wonder I see in nature.
Join us on this transformative journey. Together, we can protect and restore the beauty of our oceans, ensuring that future generations can continue to be awed and inspired by their splendour. The oceans need us, and we are committed to answering their call.

Georgia Elliott
Meet Georgia, Our Ocean Enthusiast and Marine Science Student at The Oceans Need Us.
I'm Georgia, a proud team member at The Oceans Need Us. Currently knee-deep in my marine science degree, my love affair with the ocean is rooted in its role as home to some of our planet's most incredible and unique creatures.
I'm not just passionate about the marine life we see today; I'm also fascinated by the ocean's historical inhabitants. Studying past and present organisms that call our oceans home is my jam. From ancient marine life to the fascinating creatures thriving today, every chapter of oceanic history fuels my curiosity.
But here's the twist—I'm not just about marine life; I have a soft spot for dinosaurs, especially those that once roamed the ocean depths. There's something exhilarating about connecting the dots between ancient sea monsters and the incredible marine life we have today.
Being part of The Oceans Need Us is more than a job; it's a mission. I'm dedicated to spreading awareness about the wonders of our oceans, advocating for their conservation, and diving deep into the science that fuels my passion.
Join us to explore, learn, and protect the ocean and its remarkable inhabitants. After all, the oceans need us, and I'm honoured to be part of the crew working towards a healthier, thriving marine world.

Ikayr Sheers
Hey, I'm Ikayr, proudly navigating the world of marine science as a member of The Oceans Need Us team. My love for the ocean has deep roots that go back to when I was a little dreamer. It was where the stars took their daytime nap, and every ripple told a tale of life beneath the surface.
What captivates me most about the ocean is its incredible depth. It's not just a vast expanse of water; it's a canvas that shapes remarkable rocks into unique formations, telling stories of time and resilience. Exploring the mysteries hidden in the depths is like uncovering secrets written in stone.
Now, let's talk about my ocean crush—the bobbit worm. This creature stole my heart with its lightning speed, unapologetic viciousness, and mesmerising rainbow sheen. The ocean, to me, is a stage where these incredible performances of life unfold, and the bobbit worm is a star in its own right.
Being part of The Oceans Need Us is not just a job; it's a passion. I'm on a mission to share the ocean's wonders, advocate for its conservation, and unlock the mysteries that have fascinated me since childhood.
Join us on this exciting journey to dive into the depths, explore the richness of marine life, and protect the world beneath the waves. The oceans need us, and I'm thrilled to be part of a team dedicated to ensuring their continued vibrancy and life.
